The 1995 Corvette Indy Pace Car is one of the rarest of all modern Indy pace car replicas, with only 527 being built. 1995 was the third time the Corvette was chosen to pace the Indy 500, and in typical Chevrolet fashion, the car was a knockout. This particular '95 Corvette pace car shows just 122 (not a misprint) original miles. With excellent care and maintenance since it was new, this is as close as you are going to get to a brand-new 1995 Corvette pace car. With a sticker of nearly $50,000, the '95 Corvette pace car was far from cheap, and was loaded with every option Chevrolet could install. The Z4Z Pace Car package included that remarkable Dark Purple Metallic over Arctic White paint job that was accented by a bright orange tape stripe across the nose that seems to unravel into a checkered flag design as it crosses the doors. There's also a traditional Indianapolis Motor Speedway winged tire emblem on the rear quarter panels and rear bumper. Of note, the Indianapolis 500 lettering under the graphics on the doors were shipped in the trunk so the customer could choose whether he wanted to display them, and this car has not had them installed. The Corvette pace car's interior is unique as well, with matching dark purple and black leather on the seats, which, in this car, remain wrapped in the original plastic. There's also an embroidered Indianapolis 500 logo in the headrest to further set it apart from garden-variety Corvettes (as if you could miss the exterior graphics package). All pace car replicas were loaded, including electronic A/C, a Bose entertainment system, power driver and passenger seats, as well as a 4-speed automatic transmission. Black carpets and dash compliment the bold exterior and in the case of this car, most of the components are still protected, including the screen on the stereo system. There's plastic sheeting on the carpets and door panels, and the leather-covered steering wheel is still wrapped up as well. Our photo shoot might be the first time the white vinyl convertible top has ever been folded, and it remains spotless and brilliantly white. Mechanically, the pace cars were identical to other 1995 Corvettes, with a potent LT1 engine under the hood making 300 horsepower. In fact, the actual pace car used at the race required no modifications to be race-ready, aside from a specially designed roll bar for safety. All pace cars got the 4-speed automatic, which really is a great partner for the willing LT1 engine and ideal for the race conditions under which the car was intended to be used. Thanks to careful storage in a climate-controlled environment, the engine bay and all exposed metal components are in absolutely new condition with no signs of corrosion. For purists and fans of preservation, every decal and label is still affixed to the engine, and any markings applied by the guys in Bowling Green are still clear and visible. The pace car package also included a performance 3.08 rear axle ratio and handsome 17x9.5-inch A-mold wheels which were used on the ZR-1. This one, of course, still wears its original Goodyear GS-C tires, too. Investment-grade begins and ends with documentation, and this one includes all the important stuff. First and foremost, the original window sticker is still attached to the windshield, along with the original emissions certificate right underneath. It also includes all the manuals, booklets, and warranty information that came with a new Corvette. If you've been watching the Corvette market, you have probably noticed that the prices on high-quality, noteworthy C4s have started to inch back up. Pace cars have always been popular with both Corvette fans and race enthusiasts, bolstering their value. As with any investment, it's smartest to buy the nicest example you can find, and this 122-mile Corvette pace car certainly qualifies.
